This multi-phase project (see whole house and exterior categories as well) started with the kitchen. The owner really wanted to bring some richness, warmth, light and color to the kitchen with an aesthetic that mixed traditional and contemporary idioms. The popular term for that mixture is "transitional". Lastly she wanted to see the St. Croix River from the kitchen, a view blocked by a bank of upper cabinets. By removing the primary load-bearing wall and infusing the space with cherry cabinets, beams and a large traditionally-styled island we were able to get that view and more.
